Summer & highlights seemingly go hand-in-hand, but this season we are seeing a beautiful variation on the trend that brightens your locks with out the need for hours in the salon chair. Face Frame-lights, as I like to call them, are simple bold highlights on either side of the face. The panel of lighter color instantly brightens the look of your locks and brings a light to your face and eyes. Stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Cat Deeley are currently wearing the look, and you can too, here's how:
Your stylist will need to foil in, or balayage (hand paint) several thin slices of a lighter color, back to back throughout the first 1/2-1 inch of your hair, right on the hair line to create the bold panel of color. If you part your hair in the center, the section can be relatively small, about 3 inches in width. But if you part your hair on either side opt for a wider panel of the highlight so that you have plenty of the new color is visible on either side of your part. Avoid a high contrast between the two colors, I recommend that you keep the face framer about 2-3 shades lighter than the remaining color on the majority of your hair, so the look is fresh and modern. Just keep in mind that the hair on the hairline is usually finer and more fragile, so be conservative when lightening this area.
The result is a gorgeous summer glow around the face, without the need for a full head of highlights. I love the way it brightens up the hair, don't you!?! I think I will be adding a frame-light in my hair pretty soon, so I'll keep you posted!
