DID YOU SAY MAKEUP PUTTY?!

Have you ever tried a makeup product with a thick putty-like texture? Putty makeup products are some of my favorites, especially for mature skin- because they have a 'balmy' quality that really floats on the skin and lays nicely on texture. I also find them to be really nicely pigmented with great staying power. Sometimes they get a bad rap, but 9 times out of 10, I think it is user and application error. So let's start there!

How do you use a putty?

Putties are viscous (thick and bouncy) and usually come in a 'pot' for packaging. The product needs to be scooped out of the pot to be used effectively, so using a cosmetic spatula is the best way to do this. Once the product is out of the pot it needs to be warmed up to activate the balmy effect. Tap or spread the product with fingers first, and the buff in with a brush if more blending is desired. Fav PUTTY products:

  • Jones Road Miracle Balm- this new creation by the legend Bobbi Brown is amazing for adding a blurring, balmy effect to the skin. Great for dry skin or those that just want more ‘life’ in their skin. My fav place to where it is on the high points of my cheeks and then on my chest to blur and brighten the discoloration there.

  • ELF Putty Bronzer and Blush- These are both super affordable and effective… although not to be applied as a traditional product with a brush. Instead scoop out a small amount and warm it between your fingers, and then tap to apply precisely on the face. Then, you can use a brush to further buff if desired.

  • Tarte Timeless Putty Primer- Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways! My go-to primer for years and it’s still the best! Fills in pores and mattifies skin without adding weight or buildup.

  • Morphe2 Wondertint Lip (and cheek) Mousse- these are great little pots of multi use putty, but I love them on the lips almost like a stain. They are matte but sheer and lightweight.

  • MAC Paint Pot Eye Shadow- if you struggle with shadow creasing, these paint pots serve as a great lid primer to layer with powder shadow, or work all on their own too without budging for hours. Great for long wear needs like for a wedding or family pictures etc.
