THE KEY TO BETTER MAKEUP OVER AGE 40

MEGAN’S DRESS HERE

The number one thing I get asked for advice on is dealing with the changes in our skin as we age, and how to adjust our makeup to work with enhanced pores, texture, and fine lines. Recently I taught a class to about 200 women over the age of 40, and I shared with them my technique I call pre blending. It was such an ‘ahh-ha’ moment for so many women in the room, I wanted to be sure to share it online as well.

Pre blending works for textured skin because it reduces the amount of product we use (the #1 cause of creasing) and it helps makeup to float over the surface of the skin in a more airbrushed type finish… Take a look at the video below where I give you the full scoop and demonstrate how to get better makeup results over age 40.

To help you grasp this concept start by imagining a large slab of marble- what are its qualities?

Hard

Smooth

Dense

Even Porosity

Now imagine I pour a can of paint over the marble... I could easily spread the paint evenly using my hands, a brush, a roller etc., and cover the marble evenly with little effort.

NOW picture a slab of weathered concrete, what are its qualities?

Rough

Uneven

Bumpy

Cracks

Open pores

If I pour that same paint over the concrete- it would be much harder to spread the paint evenly, It would soak into the lines and cracks, the paint would be really thick were I poured the paint but then much thinner with less coverage as I spread…

WE ARE CONCRETE!

Our skin is no longer like it was when we were marble in our 20's, and now we have to apply makeup differently to get even long lasting results.

One of the easiest solutions is pre blending... the idea that we front load our makeup brush/sponge/puff with the product before it ever touches our face. Similar to loading a paint roller with paint, instead of pouring the paint directly on the surface and then trying to spread it out.

You can pre blend on your hand or any solid surface, I prefer an acrylic mixing plate… but the key is to use less product and make sure it’s evenly distributed throughout your brush, sponge or puff BEFORE it touches your face. Then simply stamp or skim the product over the surface with a light hand. You’ll be surprised how much farther your product travels! I use mostly cream products, but you can use the same technique with powders too… load the brush and then swirl and tap it on your palette to distribute the product evenly. Then skim over the surface for an easy blended application. Get your own blending board here
