5 TOP TIPS FOR FLAWLESS MAKEUP APPLICATION OVER AGE 50

As we age, our skin undergoes various changes, including a decrease in elasticity, hydration, and collagen production. This can make makeup application a bit more challenging, as certain products and techniques may not work as effectively as they used to. However, with the right tips and tricks, you can still achieve a flawless makeup look on mature skin. [video here]

Prioritize Skincare & Prep

No makeup will look good over dry skin- hydration and skin prep is key to a good result with your makeup. I like to be sure and prep three areas; overall skin/pores, under eyes, and eye lids prior to applying base products.

Color Match Matters Most

We can't change texture with makeup, but the best way to camouflage it is to use base products that are as close in color to our skin as possible... that means rethinking trying to 'brighten' with lighter colors- which will actually accentuate texture and lines. You may need to mix two shades to find a perfect match or even use color additive drops to get the right tone- but it is worth it to wear a shade that matches you perfectly.

Application: Less Product, Thinner Layers, Blend Two Ways

Less is more when it comes to makeup as we mature. Texture in the skin will only be highlighted with thicker products and lots of layers. Keep it thin and light handed, and BLEND with intention. Blending each step with two methods ensures your best application, so either fingers & then a brush, or brush and then a sponge etc...

Cheat Everything a Little Higher on the Face

As we age we tend to lose bone structure, youthful fat, and elasticity in the skin. By cheating our color application a little higher we will visually 'lift' the overall face. This goes for cheeks with contour and blush, our eyeshadow and brows, and even or lips.

Brighter, Lighter & Lifted Eyes

Keeping our eye shadows brighter and lighter as we age, simply looks more youthful and keeps the eye area as open as possible. We are already fighting gravity so adding darkness to this area is counterproductive. Ditch the dark liner and instead focus on a brighter lash line and then take your time adding mascara for definition.
